The deafness is not in the ears, it is, indeed, in the hearts. If I cannot hear you, I can feel you. The signals’ translator narrates, on behalf of Naela’s mouth, the story of Naela’s free spirit. The 28-years Naela Al-Bassyouni graduated from the IUG Innovative Technology Diploma has grown up her life with a hearing impairment from birth, but with strong willingness she intended to prove herself.
A Dangling Barrier
Since she had got the doors of Irada, she noticed new greenish paths opened for her. However, at the beginning she entrapped in some difficulties. She felt there was a barrier between her and the spoken people as if a mountain separates the valley and the sea. With every attempt she gave to contact sound people, the barrier was gradually fading in air and, for her, the valley had ascended to the sea. She started to interact with her colleagues, expressing her inability, asking for help with simple signals. The response on her silent speech was sometimes dangling, but she did not surrender. Day after day, the response had grown up and much communication had built until she reached a good level of adaption and understanding.
A Friend of the Sewing Machine
Naela, her friends, and the trainer was profoundly believers of the fact that life is not based on the sameness, but on the harmony of differences: the harmony of behaviors, habits and capabilities. Once Naela was selected to the sewing workshop, she ignored how she could behave with the sewing machine, patrons and tools; she was, somehow, disappointed and hesitant to go ahead.
“Of these threads I formed ideas of my own: children clothes, scarfs, and cloaks” she declared with pride
The first days had died with nothing to accomplish but to suffer. But with a strong inward desire to continue, she befriended the scissors, loving the threads and the patrons as if they became precious members of her family. After two weeks passed, Naela was loaded with the desire of scanning much more about the occupation of sewing. Irada taught her how to play with the scissors on the patrons so that can produce good attractive white coats and graduation caps. She learnt how to insert the needle, how to stress on the machine in the same manner she pulls the cloth which allows to produce a straight proper one. She gradually loved her work, loved that she made an accomplishment without feeling herself an alien, thanks to Irada.
“Irada was the place that I believed to be a really impressive dressmaker, it was such a shop in a university”.
As long as the inward intention, always, watered with the interest and eagerness, the tireless efforts will, indeed, reap its fruitful outcomes. Naela has had a giant interest to haunt as much for sewing occupation as she can, paying much consideration to every tiny detail she noticed from her mates and trainer at Irada Center. Although it was hard for her to get in touch with every one there, her state of concentration and attachment to the needle and thread seemed to give delight to all who looked at her. She was getting much appreciation and likeness for the first cloak and the school’s uniform she made at Irada during the three-months training along. Every piece of clothes her hands made shaped as an object of accomplishment and self-dependence and self-confidence that let her fear not to engage the business market and contact with people there.
Graduation is the first step
The graduation ceremony was not a mere step except a new beginning for another ended path, her thirsty unstoppable soul is what help her search for the knowledge of sewing. Therefore, she wished fervently she might enroll in another advanced sewing course that allow her design wedding dresses and official dresses. Naela dream of being a good trainer who will be capable of benefitting other girls; meanwhile, inclining to haunting for the latest trends in sewing field.
Within the sewing patrons and threads, she saw herself, as she mentioned, after two or three years, passing over the economic condition and open a sewing project of her own. She smiled and signally said ” I may be a manager of a big dress shop one day”.
