Gaza city — The Director of the Mental Heal/th Program at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mr. Douglass Khayat Visited IRADA Center. He was accompanied with Ms. Ghada Zaidan the Mental Health Field Officer, and Dr. Nabil Dukhan the Head of the Psychology Department at the Islamic University. Welcoming visitors was the director deputy for fundraising & public relations Miss. Manal Hasna.
Hasna introduced IRADA center that targeting people with disability in the Gaza strip, and provide the rehabilitation and vocational training to help people with disability to be productive and compete in the labour market. In addition, she talked about the importance of the vocational training in the inclusion of people with disability in the community, and the positive impact of the training in enhancing their social, economic, and psychosocial conditions. Hasna also illustrated the needs of people with disability for psychosocial support as psychosocial status plays an essential role in the trainee’s performance.
From his side, Mr. Douglass briefed about the mental health program, the provided services and the program target group. He expressed interest in inclusion people with disability and enhancing their access to the psychosocial support. In addition Mr. Douglass welcome with the cooperation to benefit IRADA trainees from the mental health program.
During the visit, the delegation had a tour in the training workshops and products showroom where the products of people with disability are marketed. Hasna mention the importance of the showroom in presenting the high productivity of the craftspeople with disability. The delegation praised the products and wished the sustainability for IRADA center.
